Quicker is a near future SciFi/Thriller. Its young heroine Ell Donsaii has a nerve mutation that gives her reaction time that are faster than a normal human’s. This has made her an athletic phenom. Because it’s sped up and made her brain more efficient, Ell’s also a math prodigy. Instead of counting sheep to get to sleep at night, she works on her own theory of quantum mechanics.
Shy and concerned about her social skills, yet well loved by those around her, she’s recruited to the US gymnastic team. This puts her at the center of a terrorist plot at the Olympics.
The terrorists’ abilities are far outclassed.
A tradition of young, strong, brilliant, female heroines like Honor, Lisbeth, and Katniss is continued
Whole series is very readable and very optimistic, books progress nicely as one story, characters are likeable and plots are good even if the technology and plot coincidences are unbelievable. Strangely, the science was quite well done and, apart from a few obvious leaps of faith which made the main tech and the plot possible, tried to keep within what was reasonable in current physics.
(To tell the truth, the author has only expanded on some of the newer and freakier physics currently in progress and said "what if". )
The main thing is I always found myself looking forward to the end of the day when I could step back into her universe and it was a nice change from the usual "space marines" or "Oh look, I've found a lost spaceship" plot that seem to get recommended to me all the time - FFS Amazon time to tune up your AI a bit!
Nothing dodgy in the way of sex and violence so would suit younger readers too,
My only minor gripe is the $3 costs did add up to quite a lot in the end but I had to keep buying the books and I don't regret a dime of it and I will give the whole series 5 stars.
